The Berești Wind Project is being developed by European Energy and a local developer. The project is located in Galati county, a region with optimal wind resource on the eastern border of Romania. This area is well known for its constant all-year-round winds that can provide a stable electricity output. Ultimately, the result will be a reliable source of renewable energy for the gradual decarbonization and security of energy supply in Romania.
The project is in a late development phase, targeting the installation of up to 20 wind turbines with 126MW installed capacity, an electrical substation, improvement of access roads and underground cables. Knowing the fact that the infrastructure will occupy only a small part of the land, 18ha out of 142 ha, we can consider multiple uses for the rest of it, like agricultural use and grazing of farm animals.
This project represents a strategic investment in modernizing the energy infrastructure of Galați County, with the goal of ensuring a safe, efficient, and sustainable electricity supply that meets both current needs and future demands.
It is fully aligned with European and national objectives for transitioning to a low-carbon, green economy. By promoting renewable and sustainable energy sources and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, the project contributes significantly to combating climate change and enhancing energy resilience.
The objectives of the project include the generation of electricity using wind kinetic energy, a renewable and non-polluting natural resource. The electricity produced will be supplied to the national energy system via underground electrical networks, enhancing infrastructure reliability and minimizing environmental impact.
Additionally, the project aims to reduce dependence on natural gas and oil, which are polluting and non-renewable energy sources. By prioritizing clean energy production, the project also contributes to a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, supporting broader environmental and climate goals.
The tower height will include two sizes between 110 and 166 meters. The blade length will be close to 85 meters. The wind turbine suppliers that European Energy contracts have a proven track record, state of the art turbines and main focus on sustainability in their supply chains.
The project has a capacity of 126 MW.
The estimated production is approximately 333 GWh/year, which means electricity production for approximately 140,000 households.
The project can avoid up to 90,000 tons of CO2/year.
The total area of the project is 142 ha, and the area used directly for the infrastructure is only 18 ha.
European Energy has a vast experience of more than 20 years developing, constructing and operating renewable energy projects. The company follows best practices across markets, harmonized with high ESG standards and complying with accuracy to the permitting track indicated by the local regulatory framework and optimizing the project. Wherever necessary, it conducts additional work to comply with global standards while prioritizing local professionals in order to deliver high quality reliable infrastructure back to the community and its stakeholders.
European Energy is present in 20 countries, employing a variety of people with different nationalities and backgrounds, including cultural, racial, gender, educational, personality, neurodiversity and sexual orientation, and operating in line with its Code of Conduct while transparently paying its taxes in the countries it operates.
The construction timeline of a wind farm depends on several factors: the condition of the land, the number of turbines and the proximity to the grid connection point. For a project of this scale, the estimated timeline of construction is 18-24 months. It will be built by an experienced construction team, starting in 2025 and following all relevant health and safety requirements while giving equal opportunities to both local and international man power. In addition, there will be focus on complying with local and EU legislation regarding management plans, information on construction times, any nuisance to neighbors, traffic and waste handling as well as resource efficiency.
When a wind park is designed, all parameters are taken into account to minimize the project’s impact to the nearby community which can come in different ways. Overall it has been found that the impact of the project to the surrounding communities is going to be minimal.
That considers sound emissions where the resulting level of decibels to the nearest houses is lower than 40 and absorbed by the thrust of tree leaves and in-house appliances. Turbines also do not usually produce low frequency noises in such a distance that houses exist in this project.
There is low possibility of shadow casting a few hours per year in the nearest properties due to the main orientation of the turbines while special software can always stop the turbines when this phenomenon is very continuous.
The visual impact from the Beresti town will be limited due its orography and mainly any drivers coming out of Pleșa town will be seeing the turbines. The modern, large rotors have a lower rotating speed resulting in a smoother operation while more pleasing to the eye.

European Energy believes involvement with local communities is essential at all stages of projects, so we cooperate with municipalities, local authorities and key responsible people from the start. In the public consultation process, held according to local and environmental legislation, all relevant parties deemed that the project fulfills all the criteria in order to continue.
Before construction start, informative material will be handed out to inform about potential nuisance to the neighbors. They will have the opportunity to submit complaints or grievances and the project will ensure that these are addressed fairly. In the meantime, additional initiatives are being explored for the benefit of the community.
European Energy operates in accordance with local and EU environmental legislation on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) requirements, conducting environmental reviews during the early planning stages of its projects, respecting all constraints and obtaining all required permits.
Biodiversity conservation and expansion is of high focus for European Energy while through our internal environmental team consulting, we try to apply our policies and programs to each project. There are no sensitive natural reserves in the area nor Natura 2000. The outcome of the EIA, will define a more detailed execution plan to mitigate as much as possible the project’s impact to the surrounding fauna and flora.
